Decades of biomechanical insight—applied to real-world injury litigation
Dr. Tom Jenkyn is President and Lead Biomechanics Expert at TLS Forensic Engineering, bringing over 25 years of experience in biomechanics, accident reconstruction, injury analysis, and expert testimony across North America. He has worked on hundreds of personal injury cases involving motor vehicle collisions, pedestrian and cyclist impacts, slip, trip, and fall events, workplace injuries, and complex head, neck, spinal, and orthopedic trauma—providing expert opinions for both plaintiff and defence.
As a licensed Professional Engineer and full-time tenured Professor of Human Biomechanics at Western University in London, Ontario, Dr. Jenkyn leads two advanced research laboratories: a rare 3D X-ray fluoroscopy lab focused on musculoskeletal trauma, and an Impact Biomechanics lab studying injury thresholds in bone and soft tissue. His academic background includes post-doctoral training at the Mayo Clinic and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in the UK.
“Understanding injury causation requires more than assumptions—it requires real biomechanics, grounded in evidence.”
Why This Training Exists
Dr. Jenkyn created this training series to help lawyers understand the real science behind injury causation. Biomechanical principles are often misunderstood or oversimplified in litigation, leading to weak strategy, misinterpreted evidence, or missed opportunities. This course provides litigators with a practical framework to evaluate injury mechanisms, challenge unsupported claims, and clearly communicate complex science to judges, juries, and insurers.
Together with the TLS Forensic Engineering team, Dr. Jenkyn applies physics, biomechanics, and engineering to explain how real-world forces result in human injury—bridging the gap between science and effective litigation.

What You’ll Learn
Course Benefits
Build Defensible Causation Arguments
Learn how injuries actually occur from a biomechanical standpoint, allowing you to present clear, credible causation arguments that resonate with insurers, judges, and juries.
Identify Weak or Overstated Injury Claims Early
Develop the ability to recognize when reported injuries are inconsistent with collision dynamics or exposure levels—before investing time and resources into flawed files.
Sharpen Cross-Examination of Opposing Experts
Gain the scientific insight needed to ask targeted, technically sound questions that expose assumptions, unsupported opinions, and gaps in opposing expert testimony.
Screen Files Faster and More Strategically
Apply biomechanical principles to quickly assess injury plausibility, helping your firm prioritize strong cases and avoid costly missteps.
Communicate More Effectively with Forensic Experts
Understand the language, concepts, and analytical framework used by biomechanical and reconstruction experts, leading to more efficient collaboration and better expert outcomes.

What litigators are saying about the impact of this training
Tom’s forensic training course is one of the most valuable investments I’ve made for my practice. His ability to break down complex forensic concepts into clear, practical lessons is unmatched. I walked away with a stronger understanding of evidence handling, digital forensics, and real-world investigative procedures. This course gave me confidence in areas I previously felt unsure about.
Legal Professional
Tom teaches forensics in a way that makes everything click. The real case examples, structured modules, and step-by-step breakdowns helped me understand not just what to do, but why it matters. You can tell the content was created by someone with deep experience and a genuine passion for the field. I feel far more prepared for the demands of forensic work thanks to this course.
Law Enforcement Trainee
This course exceeded my expectations. Tom presents forensic methodology with clarity, accuracy, and a level of insight you don’t typically find outside of formal academic programs. The lessons are easy to follow, yet rich with professional detail. It’s clear he poured his expertise into building a resource that truly elevates the learner. Highly recommend for anyone working in investigations or compliance.
